Recent discussions on plans to provide a 'wheeled play park' at Tenby's Jubilee area, were deemed a useful exercise by town councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night.
The meeting held by the town council's wheeled play park sub-committee gave the chance to show provisional designs for the facility to local youngsters who are keen to see skateboarding and BMX biking equipment introduced in that area of Tenby.
Pembrokeshire County Council's community regeneration officer, Alex Allison, attended the meeting and said that funding would be available for the scheme and advised that the best way to go about it would be to follow similar lines to those adopted by Pembroke Dock Town Council who introduced a skate facility and BMX track at their Memorial Park.
Mr. Allison said that the best way forward to gain funding would be to set up a community association or trust that could feature a wider membership and include representatives from other organisations and user groups from the area.
It was suggested at the meeting that, as the scheme included an element of seven to 11 play to complement the toddler play provision already in place at the park, the committee be called The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Family Play Park Association.
Members of Tenby Youth Forum also attended the meeting, along with local skateboarder David Merriman.
"It was a really well attended meeting and great to see such enthusiasm from members of the Tenby Youth Forum, who have already being raising funds towards the scheme," said Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown.
"It was good to get the feedback from the youngsters and also Mr. Merriman who is an experienced skateboarder.
"It's not just skate park provision that we are looking to build, so we still want more people to come forward with any design ideas for the facility and for anyone with any fundraising ideas to help out too," she continued, with the Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas, encouraging more young people to come into the town council's offices to view the design plans, as councillors would appreciate more comments and feedback.
A further meeting to discuss the facility is due to take place early next month.
