Sir,
Now that the funding for the De Valence has been resolved by the Town Council, may I presume to comment on the issue.
When I resigned as a council appointed trustee of the De Valence, the then chair of the Trustees took me aside to remind me that I continued to have a 'fiduciary responsibility' towards the Trust for a further 12 months.
Therefore, I should refrain from commenting on Trust matters within the town council for that period.
As far as I am aware, the law has not changed in the last four years, so I fail to understand why the same caveat does not appear to apply to the former chair of the trustees. I would be interested in hearing the rationale.
I note the new information boards erected in the town have raised some comment (Observer, November 20) and would point out that these were the initiative of the then chair of the De Valence Trust.
After a presentation by the gentleman and some discussion, the town council on a majority vote approved the funding.
