PE and School Sport - June Update

On June 21, Ysgol Bro Gwaun are hosting an athletics decathlon day for the local primary school Year 6 pupils. John Griffiths from the Amateur Athletics Association will be delivering the programme. It is hoped to arrange a number of athletics activity days over the summer holidays for pupils in conjunction with the leisure centre.

The Pembroke Sports Transition Festivals will be held on June 16 and 30 at the comprehensive school, for Year 5 pupils from the local primary schools. The Bro Gwaun Sports Transition Festival will be held on July 5.

Pembroke School are hosting a disco dancing competition on July 6, for its comprehensive pupils. Individuals, pairs and group competitors may enter. Pupils should see Mr. Scrivener, in the PE department for an application form. Football

A boys' five-a-side Millennium Knockout Competition is being held at Bridge Meadow tomorrow (Saturday). The winners will go on to play at the Millennium Stadium in January. The Pembrokeshire Schools Football Association will be holding trials for the following representative squads: Primary School - Tom Yeoman Shield (these players must be in primary school next year)- July 8; Under 12 (born in 1992) - June 9; Under 13 (born in 1991) - July 7; Under 15 (born in 1989) - June 10. Players will be recommended by their schools and squads will be selected prior to the summer holidays in readiness for next season.

Community Chest Grants Scheme

Community Chest is a minor revenue grants scheme, which has a maximum grant of £750.00. The purpose of the scheme is to support sports development at club level. Successful applications have been from those clubs looking to increase participation levels, improve coaching standards, set up new junior teams, set up girls and ladies teams and organisations looking to provide opportunities for people with disabilities.
