Do you have a smartphone, laptop or tablet computer which you would like to understand a little better? Our Digital Champion Volunteer Simon has a drop-in session every Monday morning 10-12, just bring your gadget along and ask your question. There’s no need to book and it’s free. If Saundersfoot is more convenient for you, he will be there on Tuesday, August 7, but it is necessary to book in advance. Call Saundersfoot Library on 01437 776050 or Tenby Library to book.
The Summer Reading Challenge returned in July with a theme of Mischief Makers, to mark the 80 years of The Beano. If you’re not familiar with it, the Challenge is for children aged 4-12 to read six books of their own choice over the summer; register and get a starting pack, then for each two books borrowed in a library visit there are stickers to be collected and when the Challenge is completed there is a medal and a certificate. The Challenge is only open to library members but it’s completely free to join and to take part. It runs until the end of September, so there’s plenty of time to take part.
There are new novels in this month by Terry Brooks, Josephine Cox, Nicci French, Mick Herron, Santa Montefiore and Karen Robards. We also have a lovely new edition of the Baroness Orczy classic, The Scarlet Pimpernel. In non-fiction we have a few ‘How to …’ books: Sarah Millican tells us ‘How to be Champion’, Gemma Collins tells us ‘How to be a Diva’ and Stephen Moss tells us how birds got their names in ‘Mrs Moreau’s Warbler’. There’s also the true and remarkable story of how Ben Ryan took Fiji’s rugby sevens team to Olympic glory in ‘Sevens Heaven’.
Library members with smartphones or computer access can also borrow a range of e-books and e-audiobooks and read e-magazines for free through the libraries page of the council website www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/using-library-services/247-e-library. Ask staff or the Digital Champion Volunteer for assistance if needed.
Regular Library users may be very happy to hear that the parking enforcement officers will be patrolling the library car-park and may issue tickets to those who misuse the parking system. We have a number of short-stay bays immediately outside the library which can be used for up to 30 minutes without needing a parking permit. These are clearly marked with 30 minutes signs. Parking anywhere else in the car park requires a permit which can be obtained from staff.
For more information and booking, please call Tenby Library on 01437 775151 or 01834 843934 or email [email protected].
