Sir, Oh dear, Mr. Stapleton does sound like a relic of a bygone age in his letter to the Tenby Observer dated Friday, January 9. Despite his own opinion and his many years spent living in Wales, the fact is that 74 per cent of those surveyed wished to have the option of a Welsh medium schools education available in this area. Surprisingly, and quite encouragingly, a significant majority of those who wish to learn Welsh have relocated to the area from outside of Wales. Welsh speakers are currently in the minority. A similar situation has evolved with the English language in some boroughs of London which has been met with increasing protests on the streets. Thankfully, here in Pembrokeshire, we have, through local governance and democracy, provided those who wish to live in this part of Wales a choice for their children. Whatever next Eddie, French speaking schools in France?
