Sir,
My wife and I have been visiting Tenby for as long as I can remember. I was lucky enough to be in the Tenby Lifeboathouse when the boat returned from a rescue last Saturday (April 5). I was amazed when, near to the time the boat arrived back, around 10 Coastguards rushed in! I'm also told by a fellow tourist at the hotel they raced through town - why?
Now I'm no expert, but why were they there? A good friend is a Coastguard sector manager down South and when I asked him on returning home, he was bemused too.
From a First Aid point of view, I am told that the RNLI provide the very best First Aid training and besides, there were also paramedics at the station awaiting the casualties, so it surely wasn't that!
The Coastguard is currently receiving national news coverage due to lack of funding and they send out 10 members when they weren't even required. What a waste of money.
Perhaps the Coastguard can clarify why such a response, if any, was needed, and also why they need to go so fast through town to an obvious non-emergency?
