Sir,

It is interesting to see that Clr. W. Evans, of Narberth, has had the time and the inclination to visit a number of Co-op outlets. It's a shame he hasn't shown any inclination to visit Narberth High Street in order to gauge the opinions of local people and businesses.

A visit to some of Pembrokeshire's small towns should give him some insight into the local economy. Narberth currently, with no supermarket or any other High Street name is surviving the recession. Pembroke Dock and Milford Haven, both with at least two supermarkets, have lost approximately two-thirds of their High Street shops. The rest are struggling to survive.

Does Clr. Evans not know how supermarket developments ruin existing High Streets?

Also, it must be obvious to anyone that jobs created by new supermarkets are easily outnumbered by those lost from small traditional shops.

Should it not be the duty of our county councillor to be the spokesperson for the people of Narberth as opposed to being a PR agent for major supermarket chains?
