Eurovision singer Jessica Garlick and former Five heartthrob Abs officially became the wettest pop idols in Europe this week - on Oakwood Park's new ride for 2002 Hydro - or Water's Revenge.
The two stars braved Europe's tallest, steepest, wettest white knuckle water ride for a 'Ride Of Terror' feature due to be broadcast as part of CiTV's White Knuckle Tour programme this Tuesday, August 6 at 4.35pm.
Said the Welsh girl who has captured the heart of the nation with her appearances on Pop Idol and the Eurovision Song Contest: " I was absolutely soaked. It was a terrifying experience but really great fun!"
Jessica and Abs were two of the stars appearing at Oakwood as part of the CiTV event on the second day of Oakwood's After Dark summer showtime season. The pair were joined on stage by solo singer Emma Nelson and rock/pop group Velvet Stone.
Visitors to Oakwood's After Dark, which runs until September 1, also enjoyed two new summer shows, dance song extravaganza Boogie Nights in the Mississippi Showboat in New Orleans and sizzling new outdoor show The Four Elements which hits the lakeside stage alongside Oakwood's Polynesian paradise island Bali H'ai.
Said Oakwood's choreographer Mark Short: "Both are high energy shows which explode off the stage but in very different ways. Boogie Nights is a classic party-style show full of modern and nostalgic disco songs to appeal to all ages whereas The Elements is a surreal dance extravaganza packed full of special effects. They are both highly energetic and designed to get your feet tapping.
"The beauty of the shows at Oakwood is that day visitors can stay in the evening and see both for free while evening visitors can arrive after 5.30 pm for a special price of £8."
Oakwood's nightriders can also enjoy the new ride for 2002 - Europe's tallest, steepest, wettest white knuckle water ride Hydro, world-class wooden roller coaster Megafobia, 14-storey high skycoaster Vertigo and the UK's only Shot 'n Drop tower coaster The Bounce - but in the dark! Younger children will love Oakwood's KidzWorld with The Lost Kingdom, Techniquest, The Wacky Factory and the Playtown rides.
Joining the seven-week CiTV tour are presenters Stephen Mulhern and Michael Underwood with roving reporters Leah Charles, David Leon and Leigh Morrison. The highlights of the show at Oakwood will form part of a 25-minute programme on Tuesday.
Viewers will see Quick Trick presenter Stephen Mulhern perform some White Knuckle card magic 140 feet in the air on Oakwood's sky coaster Vertigo, two young Oakwood visitors get plastered in sausages, mash, fruit and custard while riding the world's no 1 wooden roller coaster Megafobia in the 'Fast Food Ride' and some young grandchildren get their own back on their 'boring' Nan on the UK's only shot 'n drop tower coaster The Bounce in Pay-Back.
During After Dark, family showtime spectacular Boogie Nights will hit the stage three times every evening from 6.30 pm onwards in The Mississippi Showboat packed full of songs guaranteed to make you want to get up and dance!
Afterwards, you can sit back and enjoy the unique flavour of the American Deep South in New Orleans or take a trip to Oakwood's Polynesian Island Bali H'ai where background music will be played throughout the day.
At 9.45 pm every evening, Oakwood's outdoor show The Four Elements hits the stage. This fiery lakeside show combines music, dance and special effects to interpret the four elements water, fire, earth and air. The evening ends with a bang with one of Wales' most spectacular choreographed musical firework displays.
