A special event to celebrate Welsh-medium education in Pembrokeshire was held at Pentre’ Garreg Las’ Pabell Pawb on Tuesday at the Eisteddfod in Llantwd.

People gathered to celebrate and recognise the progress made, while also acknowledging the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

A spokesperson for Pembrokeshire County Council shared: “Over recent decades, we have seen significant progress in Welsh-medium education across the county.

“The establishment of Ysgol Caer Elen and the expansion of Ysgol Bro Penfro, together with the continued success of Ysgol Bro Preseli, have shown what can be achieved when there is a shared ambition to give every child the opportunity to receive a Welsh-medium education.

“Ysgol Ger y Llan and Ysgol Wdig have both become full Welsh-medium schools, while Ysgol Croesgoch is also now a Welsh-medium school.

“Ysgol Bro Gwaun is celebrating its first year of increasing the number of Welsh-medium classes, while Ysgol y Preseli has increased its Welsh-medium provision to offer Welsh-medium education to all its pupils.

“There is also encouraging progress with plans for a new Welsh-medium primary school in Milford Haven by 2032.”

At the event a video was launched that has been created by Ysgol Bro Gwaun, Ysgol Caer Elen, Ysgol Bro Preseli and Menter Iaith Sir Benfro to promote Welsh-medium education for 0–16-year-olds in Pembrokeshire.

Also highlighted, was the need for the development of a strong Welsh-medium pathway for students aged 16 to 18.
