Tomorrow (Sunday) sees the Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club’s premier event the Welsh Dragon Boat Championships at Llysyfran Country Park.
Eighteen teams will battle it out to be the champions for 2016. This will be the third year the championships have taken place.
The first year, the champions were Ysgol Dyffryn Taf boys team, last year was the Hill Billies. Who will it be this year? Competition is fierce and the final always ends up being a photo finish.
“It’s really a nailbiting time until the winners are announced,” says Carol Lewis, race control coordinator.
This year, the theme for the charities is Life Skills and children and young adults with additional learning needs. The club is pleased to support Princes Trust Cymru and local secondary and primary schools within this theme.
The event organisers have worked tirelessly for months to ensure that the third year is a resounding success and it is now regarded as one of the key highlights within Pembrokeshire’s event calendar.
They wish to thank main sponsors Burns Building Company, Andrew Davies Plumbing & Heating and also Andrew Price Hairdressers.
They were particularly inspired by the Andrew Price story who started his business with help from the Princes Trust.
All competitors will receive a themed yellow t-shirt to wear on the day and it is hoped the club will raise lots of money to support these excellent charities and schools.
The logos of the main sponsors are printed on the t-shirts, together with the secondary sponsors McCarthy & Stone, Dragon Palace, Templeton Wine, The Herald, Knox and Wells Ltd, Care in hand, Folly Farm, Tees ‘R’ Us and Bullock Consulting. The club is extremely grateful to all sponsors for their financial assistance.
Members of the Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club look forward to another successful event. Come along and watch it. There is free entertainment for the children and live music in the beer tent for the adults. Racing starts at 10 am.
