Tenby Golf Club was ably represented in last week's Welsh Individual Handicap Championship by two of its up-and-coming junior golfers - 14-year-old David Webb in category A and 12-year-old Henrik Jaakola in category B.

Both golfers had already done tremendously well just to qualify by beating over 60 other Tenby members in tough playing conditions during the May monthly medal.

The finals were played over 36 holes at Llandrindod Wells GC. David finished a very respectable 16th in his category off a handicap of seven. Henrik played some very steady golf to produce two superb rounds of net 68, giving him a 36-hole total of 136 and winning his category by a commanding four shots.

Henrik is one of four of a very strong golfing family, who along with brothers Joonas and Sam, and their father Harri are all members at Tenby Golf Club.

Club secretary David Hancock said: "We are all very proud of Henrik on what is obviously a fantastic achievement in winning a national championship at such a young age. Henrik was one of only two juniors in his category out of all the clubs in Wales that entered. Having spoken to Liz Edwards from the GUW, I understand that not only did he acquit himself very well on the course, but was also a credit to Tenby Golf Club with his accomplished acceptance speech, and smart, polite demeanour."

Both David and Henrik are part of the junior coaching schemes run by Tenby's head professional, Rhys Harry, who said: "Both these fantastic performances just go to show the strength of junior golf at Tenby. Both boys are very good ball strikers and have a lot of potential and promise. I am pleased that they have done so well. We have had in excess of 80 juniors taking part in coaching this summer. David and Henrik have shown themselves to be ideal role models for others to aspire to."
