Macmillan Cancer Support Pembrokeshire recently held its annual Welsh Cake Day on Saundersfoot harbour.

As usual, we illustrate the whole process of rolling the dough, cooking the Welsh cakes on griddles, and then selling them still warm.

It was a bumper day, with many pounds of dough being cooked on the harbour with other volunteers backing up supplies by cooking them nearby at their homes.

Grateful thanks go to all, our leader Maureen, who masterminded the event; to our volunteer Friends of Macmillan, Anne Einon, Margaret John and Anne Slade who helped on the day by providing dough or baking Welsh cakes at home. And of course our usual group of volunteers on the harbour, including Sara Hicks and Sally North. Grateful thanks to all.

Despite the unsettled weather, the fruits of our labours went like ‘hot cakes’ and a fantastic £760 was raised for supporting people in Pembrokeshire with cancer.

The next Macmillan event will be a ’60s evening with a great rock band, at the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot, on August 20. This event will be in aid of Macmillan Pembrokeshire, Cancer Research and the hall. Tickets can be purchased from the Regency Hall.
