It is cricket all the year round for senior Narberth cricketer Nick Evans, who is back in Narberth after a whistle-stop visit to Barbados.

Nick travelled in his role as secretary to the Wales Over 50s team and was accompanied by representatives of some County Over 50s teams in England.

The party were on a fact-finding mission looking at cricket grounds, hotels and facilities for the Sir Garfield Sobers Cricket Tournament in Barbados next year for Over 50s representative teams.

The visit left Nick in no doubt that the Welsh team should take part in the festival next year.

Commenting to Observer Sport, he said: "Each county team will play four games of cricket and one of the matches will be played under floodlights at the famous Barbados Oval.

"Already some 14 players have expressed an interest in playing for the Wales Over 50s team in Barbados, with some wives and partners also keen to travel.

"Apart from touring Barbados next year in the festival, I would like to think that it would be possible to take a Pembrokeshire representative team to Barbados in 2010.

"Looking back, the highlight of the trip was an evening we spent discussing cricket with three legendary West Indian cricketers, Sir Garfield Sobers and his two former fast bowling colleagues, Wes Hall and Charlie Griffith."

Nick has not ended his travel in 2008, as in three weeks time he will be jetting off for a three-week cricketing tour to Hong Kong and New Zealand, which will involve seven games of cricket.

The Pembrokeshire off-spinner will be playing as a guest player for the Worcestershire Over 50s team and will have another Pembrokeshire cricketer with him on the trip, as Manorbier early order batsman Steve Flook will also be guesting for them.
