FOLLOWING his recent success in winning the Open Percussion Competition at the Chevron-sponsored Pembrokeshire Secondary Schools Musical Festival, Tenby Greenhill student, William Edwards, aged 16, younger son of Amanda and Arnold Edwards, has received news, after auditions at Pontypridd and Cardiff, that he has been accepted for the National Youth Orchestra of Wales for 2008.

This will be the third year in succession that William has been a percussionist with the National Youth Orchestra under the direction of Owain Arwel Hughes.

He has also been offered a place as a percussionist with the National Youth Brass Band of Wales and the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales for 2008.

William, who is tutored by Melanie Walker, previously played in 2004 with the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain, appearing in concerts at Birmingham's Symphony Hall, York University and the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, then aged 13.
