Congratulations to 12-year-old William Edwards, of Tenby, who has been selected as a percussionist in the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain. He will join the main symphony orchestra with the NCO for their 2004 season.

The National Children's Orchestra was formed in 1978 and auditions are held throughout the United Kingdom during September and October for hundreds of talented children.

William will attend a course at Easter for one week and another in the summer in Derbyshire, with a pre-Christmas weekend in London.

William is a Year 8 pupil at Greenhill School where he is taught percussion by Melanie Walker and is the younger son of Amanda and Arnold Edwards, of Upper Hill Park.

He gained a distinction in Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music grade four last spring. He also plays piano and trumpet and is a member of Greenhill School Orchestra, Concert Band and Pembrokeshire County Windband. Last summer, William played percussion with the Three Counties Youth Orchestra at their annual course held in Llandovery.

The main National Children's Orchestra ends each course with performances in major concert halls in the country. The Easter concert in April will be played at the Victoria Hall, Stoke-on-Trent. Concerts in August are to be played in the Birmingham Symphony Hall and The Barbican, York.

The 2004 season for the NCO culminates in a concert in London at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank, in December.

William is looking forward to a very busy musical year.
