Sir,

Having recovered from the great disappointment of Tenby not entering the Wales in Bloom competition last year, I am delighted to see that the resort has been successful again this year and send my congratulations to Clr. Mrs. Lane and committee - together with the gardener and, most importantly, the entrants to the town competition who have pride and pleasure in making their premises colourful. Overall, it is the town that benefits through tourism.

At 91, I still recall organising the inaugural committee well over 30 years ago and it has always been a pleasure to me that the surrounding towns and villages have followed suit.

My wife (now 90), who was born and brought up in Tenby, and I, have great memories of living at Old Coastguard House on Castle Hill for over 20 years - and would still be there except for the fact that it would have been unsuitable for the survivor. So when touching 80 we moved to be near two of our sons who live quite near and who have been a great support to us. The name of our house is 'Tenby' and we have the Tenby Observer sent to us each week.

Incidentally, I have just discovered that there is a Tenby Street in Plymouth at St. Budeaux, which is only a mile from our house!

I intend to photograph it and see if I can get its history. Might make a paragraph for the excellent Tenby Times.

With regards to those old enough to remember us.

John Evans,

'Tenby', Cornwall.
