Sir,
May I through your letters page, give a huge vote of thanks to the people of Carew who, despite the appalling weather, made our Diamond Jubilee celebrations a great success.
A number of people, particularly from the WI, sports club and our school put in a lot of hard-work after being told by the community council that they would not be organising or leading any celebratory events.
This was particularly disappointing, since, according to a report of a council meeting, in your 'paper last year, they implied that although the community council had decided not to do anything special to mark the royal wedding, they would for the Jubilee.
Their total involvement in this year's celebrations was to give commemorative medallions to children up to the age of eleven and to make available the sum of £500 made up of £128 'new money' and £372 left over from fund raising for the Golden Jubilee.
Quite understandably many people have expressed their disappointment and are asking where was the community council? What value do they add to our community?
Once again to all those who worked so hard, your efforts are realty appreciated, particularly by our young people, who will have an occasion to remember - thank you all.
Derek Lloyd,
Milton Meadow,
Milton.
