On Saturday, my husband and I took advantage of the special Queen's Diamond Jubilee offer for residents in the SA68 - SA73 postcode area and signed up for the annual Pembroke Castle membership pass; pay once and visit anytime in the day free for a year.

Having lived in Pembroke for 10 years, we have only visited Pembroke Castle once in all that time.

We would like to say how impressed we were on Saturday. Praise to the lady who processed our application very efficiently, to the well-stocked and attractive gift shop (a lot of visitor attractions should take note of this) and to the bright and welcoming café - full praise also for the lovely lady who served us there.

We had the castle almost to ourselves on a sunny December morning, so were able to wander round and climb the towers (a good free workout) and admire the views of Pembroke and the surrounding area. A visit to the castle would provide a wonderful photo opportunity for any amateur photographer.

We learnt a lot about the history of Pembroke from the interpretive boards in the exhibition; a good overview of our local history.

So well done Pembroke Castle. Although sometimes overlooked by locals, it's a well-managed and affordable local attraction. We will be back.
