The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has made well-being a central theme as it plans for the future, having drafted a new Corporate Plan for 2016/17 and Strategic Equality Plan for 2016-2020.
As the Welsh Government’s Well-being of Future Generations Act comes into effect this year, the Park Authority has drafted both these plans in line with the Well-being Goals outlined in the Act.
The authority is now consulting on both these plans and welcomes comments which may be sent in writing or emailed to [email protected] to be received before May 31.
The Corporate Plan, which is also intended to be the Annual Improvement Plan, sets out the authority’s Well-being Objectives, the main work programme, projects for the coming year and how they each contribute to the objectives. The Well-being Objectives are:
1. To encourage and support the development of sustainable employment and businesses, particularly in tourism and recreation.
2. To promote and develop the use of ecosystems management.
3. To enable and encourage more people to improve their well-being by making a greater use of the National Park regardless of their circumstances.
4. To work alongside communities to help them make the most of the National Park.
5. To continue to ensure equality is embedded within the work and culture of the National Park.
6. To protect and promote the local culture of language, arts and heritage of the area
7. To ensure our work makes a positive contribution to global well-being.
The Equality Act 2010, which requires all public authorities to prepare a Strategic Equality Plan, is about ensuring a fair deal for everyone and focuses on ending discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity and outcome and fostering good relations between different individuals and communities. The National Park Authority has set out its four equality objectives:
1. To continue removing barriers that can be identified for people accessing National Park Authority services.
2. To promote greater levels of participation from communities and other stakeholders in the decision making at the National Park Authority.
3. To develop a level of understanding of equality, fairness and justice issues among staff and members as befits a Welsh public sector organisation.
4. To promote equality and diversity within the National Park Authority workforce.
Both plans are available from the authority’s website www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales and hard copies are available to view at the Park Authority’s headquarters in Pembroke Dock.
