An entry of 512 lambs forward this week sold to a much improved trade resulting in an overall average price per kilo of 116.32p. Again the greatest demand was for the premium types resulting in a top price per kilo of 122p for 39 kilos from Fairclough, Frowen, Login. Lambs sold to a top price per head of £58 for 54 kilos from Davies, Meadow View, Heol Llaindelyn.
The 280 cull ewes forward sold to a fast trade with buyers particularly seeking the stronger type ewes resulting in these selling to an improved average price of £42.78, while the lighter ewes levelled at £17.33. Ewes sold to a top price per head of £60 from Gilfach Farms Ltd, Lampeter Velfrey. Rams sold to a top price of £48.50 from Hughes, Cleggars Castle, Templeton, with Wethers making up to £46 from Phillips, Broomsgrove Farm, Longlane, Portfield Gate.
Barren cows (20) selling to 69.47ppk or to the equivalent of £425 per head - top price per kilo of 93p was achieved for an 880 kilo Limousin from Rees, Kiln Park Farm, Narberth, which equated to the top price per head of £820. Heifers peaked at £650 for a 570 kilo Limousin from Harris, Ffosddu Fach, Whitland.
A small entry of fat cattle forward saw trade in line with the national average resulting in an average price per kilo of 117.02p. The top price of 121.50ppk for a 500 kilo Blonde D'Aquitaine from Howells, Coed Howell, Cwmfelin Boeth, equated to £607.
Calves sold to a top price of £110 for a Limousin heifer from Evans, Waterholmes Farm, Llawhaden, and bull calves made up to £80 for a Simmental from Woolley, Pencraig Isaf, Cwmbach, Whitland.
