Monday sees the opening of an exciting new exhibition. Narberth Museum is staging 'To Have and to Hold: a Celebration of Narberth Weddings' at the town's St. Andrew's Church. The exhibition which runs until Saturday, June 9, will look at the development of Welsh courting customs and beliefs. An array of wedding dresses, spanning nearly two centuries, will illustrate changing fashions, while photographs, press cuttings and memorabilia will highlight significant local weddings. Floral arrangements by members of St. Andrew's Church will add to the display, while the Mothers' Union have made a wedding cake which will be raffled, with proceeds being divided between the church and the museum's restoration fund. Visitors to the exhibition, open daily between 10.30 am and 4.30 pm, will also be asked to record their own stories and tips for a happy marriage in the visitors book, which will become part of the museum's social history collection. The exhibition has been made possible by a grant from PAVS, for which the museum is very grateful. During the week, other related events will be taking place. On Sunday, June 3, a Service of Thanksgiving for Marriage will be held at St. Andrew's Church at 10 am. On Wednesday, June 6, at 7 pm, again in St. Andrew's Church, there will be 'An Evening of Readings and Music'. Poetry and prose by well- known writers with music to complement the theme will trace the changing nature of love throughout our lives. It promises to be a delightful occasion, for which tickets at £5 can be bought at the door. On Saturday, June 9, the Friends will be holding a wedding breakfast, a variation on their popular paperback breakfasts. This will be in the museum bookshop from 10 - 11.30 am and admission will be £3.50, to include coffee, croissant and book swap! Local children have also shown a great interest in the exhibition and have entered the 'Wooden Spoon Wedding' competition, turning a wooden spoon into a bride, groom, vicar or guest.
