TWO former Sunderland flying boat aircrew have met up again - 57 years after their last flight together at Pembroke Dock.
Ron Boreham, a stalwart member of the Flying Boat Centre team in Pembroke Dock, and Fred Maryon from Stevenage linked up at a reunion of their old unit, No 230 Squadron, RAF.
In the early 1950s Ron, a signaller, and Fred, a flight engineer, flew in Sunderlands out of 'PD', their last flight being in 1953.
The 'Webfooters' attended the annual reunion of 230 Squadron Association held near RAF Benson, Oxfordshire, where the present-day squadron is now based. No 230 has operated Puma helicopoters for nearly 40 years, but much of its earlier history was written around flying boats, particularly Sunderlands and Pembroke Dock.
Another 'Webfooter' attending the reunion was former navigator John Leeks, of Banstead, Surrey, who also flew out of 'PD' in the 1950s.
Making up the Pembroke Dock contingent at the reunion was John Evans, project manager of the Sunderland Trust, and panels highlighting the Flying Boat Centre and local heritage proposals were on display for current and former squadron members to see.
