Two Tenby bikers on a mission to buy off-road motor bikes for African health workers raised over £1,000 towards their target last Saturday, through a charity gig featuring three local bands. Will Scott with his band Loose Change, Off The Cuff featuring Nick Thomas and headliners Elephant Gerald all gave of their time and talents for free to play at the De Valence Pavilion. They were there to help Graham Lightwood and David Stewart Walvin to raise the £10,000 needed to participate in Enduro Africa's Ride for Life. A raffle with £500 worth of prizes also helped raise funds. The money will help support the use of off-road motorbikes for use by African health workers in fighting AIDS in newly born and unborn children - in conjunction with UNICEF The bikes are ideally suited to the African terrain: They are hard wearing and can be easily maintained and mended. The bikes are used by African health workers to access remote African villages in danger of being decimated by the HIV virus and vaccinate women in danger of passing the virus on to their unborn children. David and Graham will meet the bikes in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, this October, and take part in an off-road rally in South Africa. "The Daft Way Round Concert was a real night to remember," said David. "We raised over £1,000 and had quality wall-to-wall live music from 8.45 pm 'til 1 am. Highlight of the Night was a guest appearance by Tenby's answer to The Cadbury's Gorilla. Steve (drummer with Elephant Gerald) played a superb drum solo dressed in the chimp's outfit - to a standing ovation. "In the end we had to unplug the mixing console to get the musicians off the stage - they were having a ball - and so were we," said David. "Thanks go to Clare and the staff at the De Valence Pavilion, all the musicians and technicians, Bruce Campbell for the PA system, our friends and sponsors and, of course, Jane and Debs, our partners who have suffered living with the organisational ups and downs over the last three months. "If readers would like to continue following and supporting us with a very worthwhile cause - they can do so securely online from our website http://www.thedaftwayround.com,&quot">www.thedaftwayround.com," he concluded.
