'Tenby Water Sports' on Castle Slipway offers a complete range of activities, including speed boat rides, diving trips, kayak tours, waterskiing, wake boarding and the exhilarating 'banana' rides. There you can also purchase wet suits and equipment.

Two key inland centres for watersports in Pembrokeshire are the Pembroke Castle Pond and The Cleddau River Centre.

The Pembroke Castle Pond is built into the ancient walls of the 12th century castle, the famous birthplace of Henry VII. A flood protection barrage provides a non-tidal, inland pond which is ideal for beginners and a favourite with young sailors and canoeists.

The Cleddau River Centre is Pembrokeshire's largest purpose-built training centre. It is located on the Cleddau Waterway, near the toll bridge at Pembroke Dock, with easy access to a wide range of coastal, estuary and river locations, suitable for a wide range of watersports, from wind to power. Cleddau River Centre offers a wide range of teaching facilities for beginners and intermediates, with waterside tutoring.

Across the water, Neyland and Milford Haven both have large marinas, while the hamlet of Burton also attracts boating enthusiasts.

For a more coastal experience, there are quays at Saundersfoot and Tenby, although both are dry at low tide. Stackpole also has a small quay, with parking not too far away.

The Pembrokeshire coastline offers superb conditions for surfers and wind-surfers. There are a number of break points to choose from, but beginners are advised to stay in safer climates, favouring sheltered beaches with lifeguards at hand.

For windsurfing, the bays around Tenby and Saundersfoot are said to be best suited to beginners and intermediates, with a more constant flowing over the coast.

One of the most popular surfing destinations in South Pembrokeshire is Manorbier. It is the only south-west facing beach in the Tenby area, which gives it great surf. The beach is, however, popular with families and in the summer, this can lead to a crowded surf line.

Those in search of really big waves should head further afield to Freshwater West, an unobstructed south-west facing beach, ideal for experienced surfers.

Pembrokeshire has some of the cleanest beaches in the whole of the UK, with some of the more popular choices being:

Tenby South, a wide, long, south-east facing, golden beach, which is sheltered from the roughest seas. Car parking is available above the beach and in the Rectory car park.

Saundersfoot beach, especially at the Coppett Hall end, where there is plenty of room and car parking just behind the beach.

Barafundle, accessible only by footpath, providing a clean sweep of golden sand, backed by dunes.

Manorbier, a sheltered beach with sand and rocky areas opens out to a good surf. The car park is ideally placed for the beach, castle and village.

Broadhaven (South), with plenty of golden sand. Different exits lead to the road, Bosherston Lily Pools and Barafundle Bay.

Freshwater East, a wide bay with stones and sand, backed by dunes. This area feels remote, but has facilities, a caravan park and village with inn nearby.
