Pembrokeshire's coastal waters are teeming with wildlife as the seabird breeding season reaches its peak and the best way to get a look-in on the activity and action off the coast is from a boat.
Between now and the end of May the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority is running four more of its very popular 'Seabird Spectacular' evening boat trips from Martin's Haven, near Marloes, as part of the Activities and Events programme. These bookable events take place on May 18, 22 and 29, and the leaders are former Skomer Island wardens, Steve and Anna Sutcliffe, or National Park staff.
There are several other events in the May programme, including a seashore walk, a birdwatching family bike ride and the chance to join a pilgrim on a walk around St. David's.
Events over the Spring Bank Holiday and following week include family arts and crafts workshops at Castell Henllys, the National Park Authority's Iron Age hillfort near Newport, which features in the BBC1 'Surviving the Iron Age' series which began last week.
Due to Foot and Mouth restrictions, two of the items listed for this period have had to be cancelled - a coastal and inland walk from Freshwater West to Angle tomorrow (Saturday), and the 14-day sequence of walking the Coast Path, due to begin on Saturday, May 26. The Coast Path walk has been replaced by a series of quality walks.
In addition, the coastal and inland walk on Sunday, May 27, at Newport has had to be modified. In the morning it will be an urban walk, discovering some of the fascinating history of the Norman enclave of Newport, and in the afternoon there will be a separate, and optional, walk in the Afon Nyfer valley. The route of the horse ride on Tuesday, May 29, has been modified and will keep to quiet roads.
