Sir, Last Thursday, November 11, I spent the morning selling poppies in and around the War Memorial, waiting for the remembrance service to start. It was very well supported. The police stopped the traffic for the two minutes' silence to remember the war dead. I stood thinking of my six close comrades who died in Normandy, all 18, 19, 20 year-olds. I was very saddened to see people just walking past taking no notice. Surely it's not asking too much to stand for just two minutes to remember those brave young boys who gave their lives so they can be free today. I look at the world today and wonder - was it all worth it? For your tomorrow we gave our today. Gordon Prime, Chairman, Normandy Veterans Association, Vice-president, Tenby Royal British Legion.
We will remember them.
