Sir, Re. your article Aviation Group remembers Liberator crew 60 years on (October 1). At that time, my wife LACW Peggy Silverwood 2037398 from Guild House, Cresswell Street, Tenby, was stationed at Talbenny (Coastal Command) as a driver. She was detailed to pick up the CO's car and drive three investigating officers to the site of the crash. She had a library book with her and preferred to remain reading in the car rather than witness the harrowing details of the lost crew. She remembers the incident well. I had arrived from USA and Canada at Talbenny in early September, but did not meet Peggy until a few weeks after the incident. We were married January 1, 1946. I was demobbed, my wife on seven days leave, but Talbenny was closed and she was at Dunkeswell, South Devon. I had just returned from India, seven days did not seem long, so I wrote could she have an extension of leave? A telegram granted seven days more, so I wrote and thanked them. When she got back to camp, HQ said they had granted extra leave on many occasions, but no one had ever written and thanked them before.
