Some residents of Pembroke Dock have recently received telephone calls asking them to accept a reverse charge phone call, which have transpired to be offensive calls from strangers.

The 'operator' usually states a man's name such as David or John and when the person accepts the call they are recorded messages, usually of an abusive nature. These are prank/hoax calls.

"We would like to make potential 'victims' of these bogus reverse charge calls aware, and advise them not to accept them or they will be charged and they may also find the nature of the recorded message offensive and unpleasant to listen to," said a police spokesperson.

• These are voice recorded messages and are not aimed at any specific person and are basically a hoax.

• Do not accept any reverse call requests via the operator, unless the person requesting confirms their identity to you.

• Contact BT if hoax calls such as these are received to get the number blocked.
