Over the weekend, coastguards all around the Welsh coast dealt with rubber rings and inflatables being blown off shore by the variable winds.
In this area alone, Tenby Coastguard team and the inshore lifeboat were called out twice in quick succession to deal with inflatables off the South Beach.
Two other persons were also rescued from lilos and inflatables by members of the public from the beaches of Tenby and Saundersfoot.
Luckily, tragedy didn't strike in any of the incidents around the coast, but several could have turned out very differently, but for the quick-thinking and sharp observation of members of the public. They are all thanked by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
The incidents have led to a warning from the coastguards, who say that although inflatables can be great fun, users should always ensure they follow a few simple guidelines:
• Check the wind direction - any wind blowing off the land onto the sea will rapidly take an inflatable out to sea and make it very difficult to return to land.
• Never go out of your depth.
• Always ensure your inflatable is securely tethered.
• Tie your inflatable to something secure on the beach or ensure an adult is holding the tether. A retractable dog leash, with a brake, is ideal.
• And remember, alcohol and any sea activity do not mix.
