A Saundersfoot woman has issued a warning this week over telephone callers claiming you have won large sums of money.

Mrs. Jenkins, who asked for her full address not to be disclosed, told the Observer that she had received a 'phone call on Wednesday from a gentleman in Canada claiming that she had won a large sum of money on a sweepstake.

Her name, the man claimed, had been selected from a mailing list and he gave a verification number.

He said that if Mrs. Jenkins called a special 'phone number, arrangements could be made for her to receive her cheque.

However, when Mrs. Jenkins said that she would contact the local press to arrange publicising the big win, the 'phone went dead.

"You read a lot about this sort of thing, with people being duped into giving out bank details and such like over the 'phone and I was suspicious from the outset, because you don't get something for nothing in this world," explained Mrs. Jenkins. "The man was very persistent, but hung up as soon as I mentioned contacting the Observer.

"I just wanted to warn everyone about this type of call. Luckily I had my wits about me, but the man seemed so plausible, someone else, like a pensioner, may have been taken in."
