Over the next few weeks, young Manx Shearwaters will leave their nests on Skomer Island and fly thousands of miles across the Atlantic Ocean to the coast of South America. However, due to possible bad weather conditions, some of the weaker birds are blown off course and are often found in basements, under cars, in gardens or just plonked where they landed - lost and facing certain death. If you or anyone you know finds one of these birds, please contact Jean Haines at The Oiled Bird Rescue Centre, West Williamston, on 01646 651236. Place the bird into a box with some air holes and take it to Jean as soon as possible. If you cannot take the bird to the centre, Jean will arrange for one of her team to assist and collect it. Please keep on the look-out - the reward will be yours in giving the Manx Shearwater a second chance of a life and let's face it - how many of us get that. Jean Haines can be contacted on 01646 651236 (answer phone service available).
