THE catering industry in Pembrokeshire has changed over the last five years in response to people increasing their leisure time including taking more short-break holidays. There are now catering establishments looking to employ qualified chefs all year round, not just for the summer months.

The problem for employers is that there is a shortage of trained chefs in Pembrokeshire. To help reduce the shortage, Pembrokeshire College is offering local unemployed people the opportunity to train on a free 10-week course in Tenby.

Frank Shortt, business development advisor for catering with Pembrokeshire College, has arranged the use of a local premises with 20 to 30 customers booked in for lunch each day.

Mr. Shortt commented about the course: "I promise an interesting and lively hands-on experience, which will increase your confidence and ability to secure a position in a local kitchen."
