The following is a copy of a letter sent to Mr. H. E. Roberts, the county council's director of transportation and the environment, by Mr. Richard Walker, chairman of the Tenby Walled Town Residents Association.

Dear Mr Roberts,

Thank you for inviting the association to the meeting on August 12 to discuss the scheme to date and to have the opportunity to be able to offer some constructive suggestions and hear our complaints to improve the working of the experimental scheme.

In your notes of issues raised and action to be taken we welcome the actions taken. We would like to add to or clarify some points already raised:

* Signage - several members say that the entrance into town is confusing and trust that this will be reviewed before anything permanent, both positioning and size.

Also would you consider a No Through Road sign at Royal Lion corner to go up after the experiment is finished.

* White Lion Street - please consider abolishing this one-way order in the light of the traffic accident statistics compounding St. George Street as a likely serious accident area.

* Telephone at Butts Field Car Park - we put forward the need for a public phone box so that anyone needing a taxi or other transport can be picked up.

• We would also suggest a taxi-freephone at the railway station for consideration.

These matters were raised at the meeting but not in your notes:

• In the long term a barrier (rising bollard) with smart card access for those with legitimate need to enter.

• Main chain stores had not been consulted prior to implementation (Woolworths, Boots, W. H. Smith, Peacocks, New Look and Victoria Wine) but would be in the later assessment.

• After the welcome relaxing of the rules on Health and Safety matters for late arrivals and inconvenience for both the Summer Spectacular and the Sailing Regattas, the chance to have a more discretionary and common sense approach to the issuing of authorisations for others' needs.

• The agreement that the experiment will not become permanent until there has been a formal consultation.

• The acceptance of PCC to look at the consultation papers from Looe provided by the TWTRA.

Richard Walker,

Chairman,

Tenby Walled Town

Residents Association.
