National Walk to School Week was celebrated in style in Pembrokeshire this year.

The aim of National Walking to School Week is to reduce the number of cars taking children to school and to encourage parents and children to take regular exercise by walking to school.

Johnston CP and Cosheston VC Schools filled the pavements with children and parents enjoying the walk to school.

At Johnston, Julie George, of the British Heart Foundation, talked to the children about healthy living and looking after themselves with exercise and good diets.

Senior transport planner for the Welsh Assembly Government, Meryl James, attended the event to look at the work done by the school after their forthcoming application for Safe Routes to Schools grant.

Pembrokeshire County Council cabinet member for transportation and environment, Clr. Brian Hall, and Clr. George Grey also supported the Johnston walk.

Meanwhile, at Cosheston VC School, pupils made their way to school on foot from the crossroads in the village.

Headteacher of the school, Mrs. Evans, said: "I am impressed with the support given by parents and the children's enthusiasm for this event. We hope now to make this a regular event."
