Staff at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, marked last week's Healthy Living Week by getting out at lunchtime and walking.

"Walking contributes positively towards your health and well being," said Louise Jenkins, of Pembrokeshire and Derwen Trust's occupational health department.

She added: "It can be very difficult to fit in exercise when you have to balance various commitments. The great thing about walking is you just need to step out of the door and it can be done in short bouts of between 10 and 20 minutes, several times a week."

In recognition of the health benefits, a hospital walking group has been set up and meets every week to enjoy a brisk 20 minute walk in the Fishguard and Cardigan road area.

"It's really good to get out and enjoy the fresh air and a bit of exercise," said Nicky Gillies, who works in the human resources department.

She added: "It's a good chance, too, to get to know your colleagues you might not have come across before. Its encouraged a few of us to walk on other days as well and we are already feeling the benefit."
