This Saturday, five Narberth ladies will be taking part in The MoonWalk London 2016.
Together with over 17,000 women and a few brave men, walking in the trademark decorated bras, Anne, Caroline, Cherylee, Claire and Jennie will begin walking at midnight. They will walk a marathon around London to raise money and awareness for vital breast cancer causes.
Taking part in this year’s walk was the idea of Claire Newell. A mother of three young daughters, Claire was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 42 and finished her treatment last summer.
“By doing this walk and raising awareness of breast cancer I hope to encourage women and men to check their breasts for any changes. The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chance of beating it; so it’s important to be breast aware.
“After surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, I needed to feel fit and healthy again. Training for the Moonwalk has had such a positive effect on us as cancer has had such an impact on our family. It’s lovely for my daughters to see their Mum fit and active again and it’s been great spending time with such a wonderful group of ladies. We can’t wait for the big night!”
2016 sees The Moonwalk London celebrating 20 years of walking the walk and the theme this year is carnival. Walk the Walk is the UK’s largest grant making charity; supporting research and also helping those who are going through cancer now.
