Pictured above is Clive Lewis, a 71-year-old UK walker from Stonelea, New Hedges, presenting a cheque to the manager and staff of South Pembs. Hospital in Pembroke Dock.

The £800 will fund a much-needed blood machine for patients who are receiving anti-coagulation therapy and will be used in all departments, including outpatients.

The amount is Clive's remaining portion of the large figure he accrued from the sponsorship he collected for the two major events he covered over London footpaths and canal towing paths in north-east Wales, the Llangollen and eastern part of the Shropshire Union canals.

Both Tenby Cottage Hospital and the Meddygfa Rhiannon Clinic in Northfield Road, Narberth, have already benefited from the sponsorship, with the presentation of a semi-recumbent fitness cycle for their gymnasium and a Welch Allyn defibrillator and an Horizon centrifuge for the two Narberth clinics.

Clive has now covered 13 major events and many shorter walks throughout the United Kingdom.

Sponsor seeking by talking and discussing the events with individuals and families in the months leading up to their start, he also had to seek sponsored footwear, maps etc. and, very importantly, en-route accommodation covering each venue.

"It really is the attention to detail, however small, which makes or breaks a successful outcome," he said. "Footwear, clothing and fluids, coupled with all conditions and wholesome food are also a priority."

Clive again reminded us that all the equipment and auxiliary items, however small, that he has purchased over the years is not a provision from the NHS.

Again, as previously, Clive wishes to express his sincere thanks to all sponsors, new and old, who have shown such interest in his voluntary work and have given so generously.
