Over 150 adults and children put their best feet forward despite the wet weather on Sunday afternoon as they helped raise in excess of £4,000 for the charity LATCH.
Organised by Gill Priestland, a member of the support staff at Saundersfoot CP School, the event, called a Walk for Phoebe and Friends, saw a large crowd of participants and even a few pet dogs stride out from Saundersfoot to Wiseman's Bridge and back again.
Set on their way by Clr. Mrs. Rosemary Hayes and with a rousing cornet fanfare from Year Six pupil, Adam Hensman, the walk was held to raise money for the charity, Llandough Aims to Treat Children with cancer and leukaemia with Hope after two-and-a-half-year-old Phoebe Munro-Goddard, of Wooden was diagnosed with leukaemia at the start of the summer holidays.
And the walkers were delighted that Phoebe, along with her parents Kevin and Nicola, brothers, Jacob and Robin, a Year Four pupil at Saundersfoot School, and other members of their family was able to join them on their stroll.
"When I heard about Phoebe I thought I must do something to help especially as I had six weeks of the school holidays in front of me," Gill told the Observer afterwards.
"I initially came up with the idea of having a sponsored walk with some friends and really it just snowballed from there," she explained.
Delighted with the turnout on what turned out to be one of the wettest, windiest and coldest days of the year, Gill extends her thanks to everyone who helped make the event a success.
"We already know we have raised over £3,500 and are still counting the sponsorship so the final total should be quite amazing," she smiled.
A big thank you also goes to Phoebe's grandmother, Sally Munro, who donated t-shirts for the event, Sandyhill Nursery for providing helium balloons, the staff at Saundersfoot School for collecting and counting the sponsorship money and Clr. Mrs. Rosemary Hayes for starting the walk.
