Visitors to Tenby are being largely 'inconvenienced' when trying to spend a penny, as too many of the town's public toilets are closed in the off-season, claim a local walking group.
Town councillors had a letter brought before them at their meeting on Tuesday night, from the Steps2Health Tenby Walking Group, who said that they were disappointed that the public conveniences next to the bus stop in Upper Park Road were closed and similarly bemused when members of the group found many other toilets in the town also closed for one reason or another.
Talking on the issue, Clr. Trevor Hallett, felt that it was time that Pembrokeshire County Council addressed the matter.
"We are trying to encourage tourism all year round, so we should be able to facilitate visitors on matters like this from January to December and not just during the summer," he said.
Colleague Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown agreed and felt that there would probably be an influx of complaints on the issue as it had been a busy week in the town, and that the return of toilet attendants could be looked into.
"This really needs looking at again and sorting out; the town needs its public toilets open all year round," added Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, who suggested that county councillor Mike Evans could raise the matter at a cabinet meeting at County Hall.
