A walker was taken to hospital on Monday morning after she injured her ankle on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.

Fifty-five-year-old Eleanor Ward, of Newquay, Cardiganshire, was walking near Westmoor Cliff between Swan Lake Bay and Freshwater East when she slipped, sustaining a suspected fracture of the right ankle.

The lady, who was staying at Freshwater East, was treated at the scene by paramedics, before the local coastguard rescue team assisted in conveying her to the waiting ambulance.

After making their way through two fields and cutting down overgrowth to reach the coastal path, the coastguards lifted the casualty on to a specialised stretcher, before placing her in the coastguard vehicle, which transported her back to Freshwater East, where the ambulance conveyed her to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.
