The tenth annual Farmhouse Breakfast Week kicks-off at the end of this month.

Hundreds of events are expected to take place between January 25 and 31 to mark Britain's biggest ever breakfast celebration.

Haverfordwest Farmers Market will be the venue for healthy breakfast inspiration today (Friday) when Pembrokeshire County Council's food office and Health Challenge Pembrokeshire team up to encourage customers to 'Think Breakfast'.

The partnership is part of a county-wide project looking at ways for local people to access healthy food choices locally.

Using produce from stall holders, visitors will be able to sample local produce and obtain mouth-watering breakfast recipe ideas.

These include scrambled eggs on home-made oatcakes, smoothies, baked eggs and bacon with honey mustard and cheesey baked tomatoes - all of which can be made from produce available at the market, including many True Taste acclaimed products.

Tastings will take place at Riverside Quay from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.

Kate Morgan, Pembrokeshire County Council food officer, said many nutritionists considered breakfast to be the most important meal of the day as it aided concentration and mental performance, as well giving energy levels a boost.

"We are lucky in Pembrokeshire that we have lots of local producers offering a range of high quality and delicious breakfast produce," she said.

Pam Owen, of Health Challenge Pembrokeshire, said: "You can't have healthier food than fresh, local, seasonal produce and it's on our doorstep."

Organised by the Home Grown Cereal Authority, Farmhouse Breakfast Week aims to encourage people to make time for a healthy breakfast - not just in January, but all year round.

Today's Farmer's Market will also include recycling tips, while representatives from the Fairtrade organisation and the campaign to make Haverfordwest plastic bag free will also be on hand to talk to the public.
