A Pembrokeshire agricultural student has received an award from Pembrokeshire NFU in recognition of his excellence.
The W. Rees Owen memorial award, which is presented annually by the Pembrokeshire NFU County Branch to a student currently studying for a qualification in agriculture, was this year given to Ieuan Harries from Ciliauwen Farm, Letterston, during the annual Pembrokeshire NFU Cymru County conference held recently.
Ieuan, who has studied at the University of Wales, Trinity St. David at Coleg Sir Gar’s Gelli Aur campus for the past five years, is currently studying part-time for an honours degree in agriculture and a level four apprenticeship.
In recommending Ieuan for the award, David Davies, curriculum head for land based studies at Coleg Sir Gar, said: “Ieuan is an excellent student who has matured and developed to the point that he is able to take over much of the daily management of the family farm. I have no hesitation in nominating Ieuan for this award and believe that he would be a worthy recipient.”
Jeff Evans, NFU Cymru Pembrokeshire County chairman, who presented Ieuan with the award said: “It’s fantastic that we have young people like Ieuan here in Pembrokeshire who are passionate about agriculture and ready to shape the future of our industry. It is my great pleasure to present a book token for £50 to Ieuan from the W. Rees Owen Memorial Trust. I wish him the best of luck for his studies.”
