The community of Narberth is being urged to hop online and vote for the town which has been shortlisted in the ‘Champion’ category of the ‘Great British High Street Awards’ for 2019.
The awards recognises the UK’s best high streets with exceptionally strong local communities who are leading the way to the high streets of the future - judged on the four pillars of success: Customer Service, Digital Transformation, Environment and Innovation.
With Narberth challenging Swansea and Treorchy from Wales on the shortlist, the town’s Chamber of Trade chair, Andrew Rees says it is ‘well deserved’ recognition for the town.
“It’s fantastic news that Narberth is once again in the final three for the best high street in Wales, and one of only 12 in the whole of the UK,” he remarked.
“It’s a well-deserved reward to all the shop keepers and their staff for all the long hours and hard work they put in to make our town so vibrant,” added Mr. Rees.
Run by The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) in proud partnership with Visa and backed by other partners, the awards look to celebrate the communities that are working to revive local high streets.
High Streets Minister Jake Berry MP has confirmed the high streets shortlisted putting them in the running to win a £15,000 prize.
The town’s Deputy Mayor, Clr. Sue Rees has urged locals to go online and vote as much as possible.
“Please go on line as much as you can and vote for Narberth!” she said.
“You are allowed to submit one vote per email address per day - so if all could please vote daily it will greatly increase our chances!!”
Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Chris Walters said: “On behalf of Naberth Town Council - I congratulate all businesses getting behind the ‘Great British High Street’. I encourage everyone to go online and vote for Narberth! The best high street in Wales!”
Judges will be visiting the town on Thursday, September 19.
