Tidy Wales Week saw volunteers out in force to help with clean-ups around the county. On June 28, Keep Wales Tidy and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park staff were joined by seven volunteers from the 14th Signal Regiment at Brawdy Barracks to clear beach rubbish from the ruins of the fisherman's cottage at Porthmynawyd, just north of Newgale Sands. A staggering 100 bags of rubbish were removed. The haul comprised rubbish from the beach, presumably collected by visitors to the beach over a numbers of years and left at the cottage. During the clean-up, soldiers from the 237 Fox Squadron, also of Brawdy Barracks, took time out from a routine run, to lend a hand. The clean-up up on Friday, June 29, saw Marloes Peninsula Coastcare group clear 28 bags from Marloes Sands. Invaluable assistance was received through use of the Welsh Assembly Government funded eight-wheeled Argocat, which greatly eased transport of rubbish from the beach to the car park. On Saturday, June 30, Neptune's Army of Rubbish Cleaners Coastcare group braved torrential rain and wind to carry out an underwater clean-up at Stackpole Quay. Along with general litter such as cans and bottles, the group retrieved 150 fishing weights from the sea bed.
