Last Saturday's Marine Conservation Society's beach clean and litter survey at Monkstone beach was a success. Ten volunteers helped to remove 18 bags of rubbish.

Polystyrene pieces were the most numerous, followed by plastic drink bottles and lids. The total weight of rubbish removed from the survey area was 75 kilos.

The data gathered around the UK is used to compile a report sent to the Government to assist in stopping litter at source.

Many thanks to all those who took part. Special thanks to Richard Reed, of Trevayne Farm, for access and parking.

More events are to be scheduled further in the year.
