Former county councillor Ken Jones from Rhoscrowther has decided to call it a day from volunteering with Pembrokeshire Citizens Advice Bureau, ending a relationship that has spanned over 20 years.
Ken began volunteering with Pembroke Dock CAB in 1990 as an advisor, a position he relinquished in May 1996 when he joined the board of trustees.
As an advisor, Ken helped many local residents with their problems.
"Sometimes people just needed to talk things through," said Ken, "but it was really satisfying when I and the other volunteers were able to help folk with issues that they couldn't manage on their own."
When Ken found it difficult to maintain the weekly commitment required for advising, he joined the board of trustees and together with his new colleagues helped to oversee the strategic direction of the organisation.
"When you have the opportunity to see how everything works from a strategic level you appreciate even more the goodwill and generosity of our volunteers," continued Ken.
"CAB really is the charity for the community and if it didn't exist, many vulnerable members of our society would suffer."
Chief executive of Pembrokeshire CAB, Nicola Roguski, said: "Ken has been a true stalwart and we are very grateful for his tireless efforts during his time with the bureau. Twenty-two years of voluntary service is no mean feat and I wish both Ken and his wife Val all the very best for their future."
Pembrokeshire CAB is always on the lookout for proactive people to join their board of trustees.
Volunteer recruitment coordinator Peter Dickinson said: "The majority of people have the perception that trustees need to be retired professionals or business people. This is most certainly not the case. We are an inclusive organisation and I welcome enquiries from anyone, regardless of age or background who think they have the skills required to serve on our board."
