THE new exhibition by internationally renowned artist Claudia Williams RCA, entitled 'Seaside', opened at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery on Friday.

Formally opened by Robert Meyrick MA, head of school of art at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth School of Art, the exhibition features many works by Claudia in which she has made studies of people in the environment of the seaside.

In these works she captures families on the beach, sunbathing, building sandcastles, digging and enjoying the freedom.

Claudia, who lives in Tenby with her husband, artist Gwilym Prichard, stated: "This is the sort of painting I enjoy the most. It is the human figure that fascinates me and has always done so even as a young child."

One picture in the show that differs slightly from the rest is Claudia's modern interpretation of 'The Last Supper' which features as models many local personalities.

Tenby Museum and Art Gallery's collections manager, Mark Lewis, said: "It is always a pleasure to deal with artists of the calibre of Claudia Williams. Her work reveals a deep understanding of the experiences of the human condition, full of emotional depth and honesty.

"This is work that will resonate with everyone and each visitor can bring their own personal memories to their viewing of the work.

"Even in the landscape of the beaches, her pictures retain an intimacy. Her pictures are a celebration of real life, free from the trappings of artificiality."

This sales exhibition runs until Sunday, November 15, and the museum is open daily from 10 am - 5 pm (last admission 4.30 pm).
