Saundersfoot is the latest community to come up with ideas on how the special qualities of its conservation area can be preserved and enhanced.

The Saundersfoot Conservation Area Working Group - co-ordinated by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority - has produced a Proposals Document outlining their ideas and this will be on view at an exhibition in the village later this month.

The working group, elected by Saundersfoot Community Council, is made up of councillors Mary Cavell and Rosemary Hayes, Clifton John, Madeline Brace, Jean Picton and Joan Nicholls. Joining them are Pembrokeshire Coast National Park staff members Phil Roach, projects and initiatives officer, Rob Scourfield, building conservation officer, and Clarissa Wells, conservation area officer.

Local consultation is now taking place on the proposals which will be on view at the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot, on Tuesday, November 25, from 10 am to 7.30 pm. The document will also be available at the National Park headquarters at Winch Lane, Haverfordwest, with closing date for comment of December 10.

Said Clarissa Wells: "Proposals documents set out how the character of each Conservation Area can be preserved and enhanced. This is done through, for example, grant aid, enhancement and, most importantly, increasing awareness.

"This is phase two of the process, following on from the preparation of a Character Statement which was consulted on last year."

Saundersfoot is one of 14 Conservation Areas in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and follows St. Davids in preparing Proposals Documents. These communities also have Historic Town Scheme Partnership Grants run jointly by the National Park and Cadw.
