Volunteers and veterans taking part in a gruelling 870 mile 'Walk on Wales' to raise £1million for the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal and Combat Stress have been welcomed to Pembrokeshire by Bluestone National Park Resort.

The walkers have been making their way along the Welsh coastline since August 25, supported by veterans, soldiers' families, supporters and others. They will end the mammoth walk at Cardiff Bay on November 2.

Bluestone, near Narberth, is a main partner to the event and is hosting walkers and members of the Walk on Wales team at the luxury short break destination while they're trekking along the Pembrokeshire coast.

William McNamara, chief executive of Bluestone, praised the organisers and those taking part.

"We have nothing but praise for the veterans, volunteers and local walkers taking part," he said.

"It's raising money for two great charities that are supporting soldiers and their families and we're very pleased to be doing our bit, providing accommodation, rest and relaxation in between their daily walks."

Mr. McNamara saw them off from Bluestone on the first day of Stage 8 between Whitesands Beach to Lower Solva. The stage will reach Freshwater West on October 14. The walkers will then start Stage 9 from Freshwater West to Burry Port on October 16.

Jan Koops, one of the veterans who came up with the vision of Walk on Wales, said: "We're very pleased to have the support and generosity of Bluestone. It makes a real difference to the veterans, volunteers and support team and is helping us achieve our goal of raising £1million to help veterans and their families."
