Sageston Community Primary School was given an excellent report following the recent inspection carried out on the school by Estyn and is judged to be a good school with outstanding features, providing very good value for money. The report states that the school is managed by a very supportive governing body and that the headteacher and staff work conscientiously to ensure the school's clear values. The school's leadership, the learning experiences provided for pupils, pupils' behaviour, accommodation and learning resources are all reported as being outstanding features. Standards of behaviour throughout the school are deemed to be very good. Pupils are described as being very polite and courteous, relating well to each other and to adults. They are enthusiastic learners who enjoy both their work and play. The report states that pupils show a very good awareness and understanding of equal opportunity issues and diversity in society. They make very good progress in their personal, social, moral and wider development and display a very good understanding of their community. The quality of the school's links with the local community is judged to be outstanding. The quality of the curriculum provided by the school is described as good with outstanding features. Children's Key Skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing, numeracy and ICT develop well in the early years. In Key Stage 1, standards and progress of pupils in these areas and also in problem solving and bilingualism are reported as being good, while in Key Stage 2, it is noted that pupils build significantly on the skills developed in Key Stage 1 and achieve very good standards. All learners succeed regardless of their social, ethnic or linguistic background. Pupils with special educational needs make good progress. It is noted that educational visits, visiting speakers and the quality of extra curricular activities make outstanding contributions to learning experiences. Teachers are described as role models of a high standard and having very good working relationships with other teachers, support staff and pupils. There is a very good complement of teaching staff with a low pupil:teacher ratio - this is judged to be an outstanding feature. The ethos of the school is reported to support a very good quality of life, which is reflected in the confidence, trust and co-operation between staff, pupils, governors, parents and the wider community. Pupils are cared for, guided and supported particularly well in a very supportive and happy environment.
